About Lithium

Lithium

Lithium derives from the Greek word “lithos” meaning stone and is ironically the lightest metal found on earth. It is the third element in the periodic table, having a relatively low atomic weight of 6.941g/mol. The characteristics indicate a high electric charge per unit mass of Li and a relatively high facility to lose electrons compared to other metals, enabling a quick transfer of electrons. For electric batteries, these characteristics help to store energy while remaining light in composition. Having an anode and cathode compromised of lithium also ensures high voltages, improving battery electric energy storage.
